I was lucky enough to attend the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona. Vantrix was one of a handful of third parties to be invited to showcase a solution in the HP booth. The booth was packed throughout the duration of the show, and we were excited to demonstrate our Vantrix Bandwidth Optimizer (BWO) solution running as a Virtual Network Function (VNF) on HP's Open NFV architecture.
This year's Mobile World Congress is nearly upon us. For those of you going, we'd like to invite you to stop by and visit Vantrix at several locations at the show. We will have Vantrix representatives at the following locations:
We'd like to invite everyone to the LightReading webinar: Solving the Mobile Video Optimization and Monetization Conundrum. This 60 minute webinar will be held Tuesday February 18th at 9AM Pacific Time. This webinar will be presented by Vantrix, Intel and Kontron and will feature the following speakers:
High density transcoding solution reduces costs and cloud-based Big Data platform offers new insights into video usage patterns
Eching, Germany February 12, 2014 – Kontron and ISV partner Vantrix today announced a major collaboration to demonstrate high performance, cloud-enabled content delivery and analytics solutions during Mobile World Congress, February 24 – 28 in Barcelona, Spain.
The integrated platform provides operators with a cost-effective and scalable transcoding solution for video optimization and high-performance Big Data analytics for insights to monetize video traffic data. Both capabilities are also virtualized, with integrated application orchestration for private cloud or Network Functional Virtualization implementations.
The business challenge for mobile operators and content delivery cloud providers is how to prioritize bandwidth and compute resources in the network with maximum efficiency, whether deployed in the network or in a cloud-based infrastructure. This is coupled with the need to scale to meet fluctuations in demand and still increase ARPU (Average Revenue per User).
Sven Freudenfeld, Business Development Director, Telecom – Cloud at Kontron, explained: “Up until now, high transcoding costs have been prohibitive and the current generation of mobile video optimization solutions do not scale to meet the mounting levels of video traffic on wireless networks, leading mobile operators to question the business case for video optimization. Cloud service providers and mobile operators require a solution that can repurpose network or data center elements and provide them with greater flexibility in regards to video optimization.”
Don Vendetti, Vantrix SVP, Marketing and Product Management, added: “The real goal of operators is not just to manage video traffic more effectively, but to find ways to monetize it. However, operators are challenged to make accurate business decisions because they do not have enough insight or analysis of the traffic flowing across their networks, the quality with which it’s delivered and the usage patterns and viewing habits of their subscribers. This solution provides rich insights into that traffic for making strategic decisions.”
The combined video optimization and Big Data solution will be showcased at MWC 2014 on the Kontron Stand 5H19 | Hall 5. Kontron and Vantrix will demonstrate to both operators and cloud providers the following solutions:
- A high density transcoding solution for video optimization that reduces by 4x the raw CPU footprint required compared to current computing platforms, significantly improving the mobile video business case.
- A high performance Big Data platform that cuts processing time significantly, enabling rapid analysis of video traffic data for new insights into network optimization and subscriber monetization.
- Unique, high density Kontron Symkloud platforms that feature integrated switching, optional load balancing, remote system management, and the bare-metal installation of OpenStack for versatile cloud provisioning.
Vantrix enables mobile network operators to address the massive growth in mobile data usage with targeted bandwidth optimization, deep network traffic intelligence and next generation NFV and cloud capabilities. Our adaptable software solutions balance quality-of-experience with cost-effective use of network resources. We reduce network congestion caused by streaming audio, video and web content and software downloads while enhancing revenue opportunities for operators worldwide. With a rich heritage in mobile video and image optimization, Vantrix has developed a high-performance, scalable platform to meet the unique needs of operators today and in the future. Vantrix solutions are deployed in more than 65 networks worldwide.

In the past month, there has been some buzz about efforts by Google and AT&T to provide better management of mobile data costs. Google Chrome added the capability to optimize web content accessed through the browser by compressing images and web pages while allowing users to track how much data they’re saving.
